Dear Marcher for Life,
The holiday season is here, a time to celebrate Life, Joy, and Hope. You can continue that celebration into the new year by honoring Life at the 38th annual Washington State March for Life. We march at Noon on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at the state capitol in Olympia.
The March for Life rally belongs to all who attend. It is the largest annual gathering at the state capitol and marks the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade that decriminalized abortion. Every elected state official is invited to attend, and we encourage legislators who stand with us for Life to speak to the crowd. Will you, your friends (or busload of friends) be there for the noon hour to hear their hopeful messages for Life?
As you know, the fight for a voice for the vulnerable and the unborn is hard but important work. It is made easier by times of victory. This year pro-lifers have found victories in many places, as we have seen a shift toward more Americans seeing abortion and any taking of life as unthinkable. We have also seen challenges as people continue to understand the heart of the pro-life movement, perfectly stated in the national March for Life theme, “Pro-Life and Pro-Woman Go Hand in Hand.” We are a people of hope. We want to bring about a world where all people are seen for their infinite value and endless possibilities.
As Pope Francis said, in his time as Bishop, "All of us must care for life, cherish life, with tenderness, warmth... to give life is to open our heart, and to care for life is to give oneself in tenderness and warmth for others, to have concern in out hearts for others. Caring for life from the beginning to the end. What a simple thing. What a beautiful thing. So, go forth and don't be discouraged. Care for life. It is worth it." Let us truly care for each and every life as advocates for the unborn and marginalized, conversation starters, and people with real solutions.
On January 19, you can be a part of the conversation and plan to make your voice heard with Washingtonians standing for Life. The March is exciting, brief, and inspiring. We encourage you to bring your group AND make a plan to visit your legislators either before or after the March. Like the last few years, volunteers will be available prior to and following the rally to help you find your senators and representatives. If you have never done it before make this the year you speak to your legislators face-to-face. They want and need to know that you are pro-life and that your voice and your vote matter. Legislators have told us time and again how much it means to see your faces. You are an inspiration.
If you can't visit your legislators, be sure to write a letter to your senator and representatives telling them that you Marched for Life, that you vote pro-life, and that we can and should find better solutions than abortion.
Please follow us here on our site and on Facebook (Washington State March for Life) for additional updates.
We look forward to seeing you and thousands of our fellow Marchers on January 19!
