Largest Annual Gathering Expected at the State Capitol Monday
For Immediate Release--- A crowd of more than 5,000 is expected to gather for the 40th Washington State March for Life at Noon this Monday, January 22, 2018. The rally is held on the legislative steps at the State Capitol in Olympia. The date marks the 45th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that decriminalized abortion.
Rally participants come from all over the state for the largest annual gathering consistently held at the capitol. In the four decades since establishing the March, the organization has never missed a year, despite challenges from weather, threats, or even the sudden death of the organization’s president 10 days before the event 10 years ago.
A nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization, the group invites legislators come to the enormous rally, no matter their position on the very hot issue. In the invitation to legislators the organization writes, “at the Washington State March for Life… we believe that every life is infinitely valuable. And we truly mean every life: each woman, man, child (born and unborn). This means women in a crisis pregnancy, babies at each stage no matter their situation, abortion clinic workers, victims of abortion, men touched by pregnancy, absolutely everyone. Every person has the inalienable right to life and a worth that is beyond measurement by any means.”
The event generally lasts one hour on the legislative steps and participants are encouraged to visit with their senators and representatives before or after the rally, as well. The Washington State March for Life began in 1979 and has rallied consistently in Olympia, drawing thousands of people each year. The event is part of the worldwide March for Life movement. The national theme for 2018 is “Love Saves Lives.” The national March for Life is held on January 19, 2018, in Washington, DC.
